Part-time GCSE and Beginner Latin teacher
Number on roll: 1,925 including 553 in VI Form
Designation of Post: Teacher of Latin (Part time)
Required for September 2012, a highly motivated, individual who is committed to improving the learning experience for our students of Latin with 3/ 4 different year groups in an after school capacity.
Barking Abbey is a large mixed community school and a Specialist College in Sports and Humanities, and we are also a Lead School for Gifted and talented. We have excellent results at GCSE and A level. The school has a well-deserved reputation for its friendly and supportive atmosphere and its excellent academic achievements.
As a result of maternity leave to a member of staff and the departure of an after-school Latin tutor. The Classics department is seeking for the full academic year a tutor who would teach small groups of 3-4 pupils GCSE and Groups of 12+ Key Stage 3 Latin. The small intimate department is a forward thinking and ever expanding unit that is recognised for its quality of provision in an after school capacity at our successful school
The Classics department currently delivers Beginner, GCSE and A-Level Latin.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and a comprehensive screening process, including Disclosure check, will be undertaken on all applicants.
Ideally, the school is looking for a tutor who
(A) Once a week from 3-4pm will run an existing CSCP Book 2 group of Year 8’s and Initiate a Book 1 Beginners group with Year 7. It would be preferred that this combination could be run as a tandem lesson with one group using the CSCP Latin-on-Line whilst the other is taught vocabulary and grammar. If necessary, two separate classes can be funded
(B) Once a week run a GCSE class for one- two hours with the intention to get 3 students to GCSE by Summer 2014
(C) Provide a very able student with intensive GCSE Latin tuition with the intention of gaining a GCSE in the next 12 months. She has studied it at school for 2 years. Her timetable during the school week has some flexibility as she has finished some GCSEs early. An after school capacity is also viable
Closing date for applications Monday, 9th July, 2012.
Please express your interest for either one , two or all three opportunities advertised above to Anthony Moloney (Head of Classics) by e-mail: moloneya [at] babbey [dot] bardaglea [dot] org [dot] uk
