New Ancient History Resources: Attic Inscriptions Online

News from Peter Liddell…

Dear Colleagues

I am writing to inform you of an exciting new initiative which is of relevance to those teaching and studying Ancient History.

Attic Inscriptions Online (AIO), an open-access project which translates inscriptions of Athens and Attica, has published a paper by Stephen Lambert of Cardiff University which discusses two important inscriptions specified for study in the period study (Greek History 492-404 BC) specifications of the Ancient History A-level.

This paper focusses on the Chalkis decree (LACTOR 1 no 78) and the Thoudippos decree (LACTOR 1 no. 138). It offers an in-depth discussion of these inscriptions in their historical context, as well as a general introduction to inscribed Athenian decrees, and will be of interest to those teaching Ancient History at A-level and their students. It can be accessed free of charge as a pdf via this url:

The paper is also being published as a hard copy booklet. If you are interested in receiving one or more copies in this format please email Stephen with your details on

With best wishes
