This one-day INSET day for teachers of Ancient History and Classical Civilisation at A-level and GCSE offers lectures on the use and abuse of ancient sources and workshop sessions on approaches and methodologies of approaching ancient history in the classroom. Prof. Chris Pelling (Regius Professor of Greek, Christ Church, Oxford) will offer a lecture on ‘The Joys and Dangers of using Plutarch’, and Prof. Stephen Hodkinson (Professor of Ancient History, Nottingham University) will talk about ‘New Approaches to Classical Sparta’. The workshops are organised by a number of experienced teachers and lecturers of ancient history. We anticipate that the day will offer useful material for teachers who are new to teaching ancient history, but it will also offer much to more experienced teachers.

Topics:
New Approaches to Classical Sparta
The Joys and Dangers of PlutarchSpace and Ancient History
Differentiated Approaches to Ancient History
Creative Starters and Plenaries for Ancient History Teaching
New Creative Ideas for Teaching Ancient History
