DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday 13th November at 4.30 pm\, Dr Alfonso Moreno will be speaking on: \n‘Do People Need Leaders? The Case of Athens’ \nDr Moreno is Tutorial Fellow in Ancient History at Magdalen College\, Oxford where he specialises in Greek economic and social history. He is author of Feeding the Democracy – The Athenian Grain Supply in the Fifth and Fourth Centuries BC and has co-edited a commentary on the first four books of Herodotus. \nDr Moreno will be looking at Cleisthenes and Athens\, and in preparation he recommends reading (in translation) Herodotus V.66-78 and VI.121-131. \nThe talk is hosted by the St Paul’s Girls’ School Classics Society. Tea and cake will be served from 4.00 in the Dining Hall and the talk will be held in the Old Library. The event will finish between 5.30 and 6.00.
