SUMMARY:The Last Days of Socrates\, Barbican Centre\, London
DESCRIPTION:News of a BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus show… \nThe Last Days of Socrates\, Friday 13 February 2015\, 7.30 at the Barbican Centre\, London\nBBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus \nhttp://www.barbican.org.uk/music/event-detail.asp?ID=15976 \nA cantata for chorus\, orchestra and bass soloist by contemporary Australian composer Brett Dean. \nClassicists who are keen to experience their subject in new contexts may be interested in this UK premiere.  Don’t expect pretty tunes – but the overall effect may be quite impressive.  The work is combined with a performance of Beethoven’s 8th Symphony. \nIt’s in English apart from the name Σωκράτης – which is sung both in Greek and English.  I have tried my best to get the chorus to pronounce the Greek version correctly! \nHilary Sillis (member of BBC Symphony Chorus)
