SUMMARY:An Evening with David Starkey: Magna Carta
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta\, one of the most famous historical documents in the world. Originally issued by King John as a practical solution to the political crisis he faced in 1215\, Magna Carta or ‘the Great Charter’ established for the first time the principle that everybody\, including the King\, was subject to the law. \nTo commemorate this landmark historical anniversary\, Edgbaston High School will be hosting an evening with David Starkey\, one of the country’s most respected and well-known historians and television personalities. Formerly a lecturer at the London School of Economics\, Starkey became a household name through his work as a broadcaster\, most notably as a uniquely abrasive debater on Radio 4’s Moral Maze and the creator and presenter of many very popular historical T.V. series on subjects such as Henry VIII\, Elizabeth I\, the British monarchy and the Churchills. \nHis most recent book entitled Magna Carta will be launched in April this year and he will be visiting school on Monday 18th May to deliver a stimulating and thought-provoking lecture on the document’s historical and contemporary relevance. The evening will begin at 7pm and will conclude at approximately 9.30pm. It will include a question and answer session with Mr. Starkey and a book signing.
