DESCRIPTION:Manchester Branch of the Classical Association  \nin partnership with the University of Manchester Department of Classics & Ancient History \nClassics for All \nWORKSHOPS ON LEADING LATIN SESSIONS IN LOCAL STATE SCHOOLS: June 2015 \nThanks to a grant from the national charity Classics for All\, the Manchester branch of the Classical Association in partnership with the University of Manchester Department of Classics & Ancient History is able to offer a series of workshops to all who are interested in leading Latin sessions in local state primary and secondary schools\, at virtually any level\, from Year 5 after-school club activities to GCSE Latin courses for senior year groups. \nThe participants we have in mind include (but are not limited to): \n\nsixth-formers who are taking Latin AS/A-Level\,\nuniversity students\, undergraduate and postgraduate\,\nschool teachers of other subjects who are interested in introducing or supporting Latin in their school\,\nclassics teachers in post or retired who are interested in contributing in whatever way to this initiative.\n\nThe intentions of the workshops include: \n\nto get like-minded people together\,\nto provide a forum for the exchange of ideas\, requests\, needs\, offers\, etc.\,\nto give people the opportunity to present practice sessions to a committed and sympathetic audience\,\nto give people Confidence\, Support\, Interaction\, and Feedback around the business of introducing young people to Latin at the appropriate level.\n\nOur provisional plan is to run: \n\na course of four sessions\, each of between 90 minutes and 2 hours\,\nin June 2015\, i.e. soon after the start of GCSE/A-Level study leave\,\nin the University\,\non Tuesday 9\, 16\, 23 and 30 June\,\nstarting at 5:30pm to finish by 7:30 – with the opportunity to drink/eat together afterwards.\n\nThe provisional programme is as follows: \n\nSession 1: pooling of needs and expertise\, offers and requests: leaders and participants introduce themselves and their relations to the project (what they need\, what they can offer): leaders demonstrate a range of topics appropriate to different year groups\nSessions 2-4: participants lead a session on a topic of their choice at their preferred level\, using other participants as pretend students.\n\nTo reserve a place or for further information\, please contact: \nJohn Taylor (jtaylor12@hotmail.co.uk) \nand/or  David Langslow (david.langslow@manchester.ac.uk) \nThere is no charge for the workshops\, but the number of places is limited.
