DESCRIPTION:8-WEEK INTENSIVE GREEK AND LATIN SUMMER SCHOOL\,\nUNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK\, IRELAND \nJune 22nd – August 13th 2015 \nFor the 16th year running\, the Department of Classics at UCC offers an intensive 8-week summer school for beginners with parallel courses in Latin and Ancient Greek. The courses are primarily aimed at postgraduate students in diverse disciplines who need to acquire a knowledge of either of the languages for further study and research\, and at teachers whose schools would like to reintroduce Latin and Greek into their curriculum. SUMMARY:Archaeological Field Techniques: Training Opportunity for A-level tutors
DESCRIPTION:Archaeological Field Techniques: Training Opportunity for A-level tutors \n29th June to 3rd July 2015: Maryport\, Cumbria \nThe Roman Temples Project Maryport proposes to hold a week-long session offering A-level tutors the opportunity to undergo training in the latest archaeological field techniques while participating in the excavation of a ritual site associated with the worship of Jupiter. \nThe Roman Temples Project\, Winner of the Current Archaeology Research Project of the Year Award\, is directed by Professor Ian Haynes and Tony Wilmott of Newcastle University.  Alongside volunteering on the excavations\, tutors will receive in archaeological survey and finds processing (small finds and environmental analysis) and have demonstrations of all major types of geophysical equipment. \nThe week’s programme will be specially tailored to address the needs of A-level tutors.  There will be no charge for participation\, but attendees would be expected to arrange their own food and accommodation.  A full range of options for the latter\, ranging from hotels to camping grounds is readily available locally. \nSubject to interest/permissions it is hoped to run this special session from 12.00 noon on the 29th June to 3.00 pm on 3rd July.  Tutors interested in this opportunity are asked to register their interest with the Project Community Archaeologist\, Mark Potter m.l.potter@newcastle.ac.uk

DESCRIPTION:An Introduction to Studying the Ancient World at A2 \nFor students of Classical Civilization\, Greek\, and Latin \nWednesday 1 July 2015 \nA study day aimed at those who have just finished AS-Levels and are beginning work on A2-Level Classical Civilization\, Greek\, or Latin. The day will consist of lectures\, given by experts who teach and study at the University of Cambridge\, which will introduce you to the A2 topics and the A2 set texts (and in particular their historical and cultural context) that you will be studying. SUMMARY:Return of the Romans Days\, 2nd and 3rd July
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 2nd July and Friday 3rd July\, we are delighted to be holding a two day living history event\, “Return of the Romans”.\nThe centre will host a series of Roman Cavalry shows\, delivered by expert re-enactors Comitatus\, as well as workshops\, activities and lectures all themed on the Romans in Britain.
