SUMMARY:UCL Classical Play 2019: Oedipus Rex
DESCRIPTION:New of UCL’s 2019 Classical Play… \nThe UCL Greek and Latin Department and the Bloomsbury Theatre present the Classical Play for 2019: Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex. \nGripped by plague\, the citizens of Thebes petition their king\, Oedipus\, to purify a divine pollution and appease the gods. Yet as he works to uncover the mysteries of a forgotten crime\, the horrifying truth of his own sordid past is brought out into the light for all to see\, and a terrible price is paid. Widely praised as having one of the greatest tragic plots ever written\, this production will recast Sophocles’ ancient masterpiece in a more familiar context\, featuring an original score and translation. Modern audiences will be confronted with the play’s timeless question: what is the cost of truth? \nBook for the lecture taking place before the show on 6th\, 7th & 8th February\, 6-7pm Lecture \nBook for the workshop with renowned director David Stuttard\, taking place on 8th February at 11am-1.30pm Workshop \nFURTHER DETAILS
