SUMMARY:CLASSICAL ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE 2020
DESCRIPTION:CLASSICAL ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE 2020 \n\n\n\nSWANSEA 17–20 April \n\n\n\n\nThe Department of Classics\, Ancient History and Egyptology at Swansea University will host the 2020 Classical Association Conference\, to coincide with the University’s centenary celebrations. The conference will take place on the newly founded Bay Campus (opened in 2015)\, which is situated in an outstanding location\, has direct access on to the beach\, and its own seafront promenade. Accommodation will be arranged in hotels between Swansea’s city centre and the Bay Campus.\n\n\n\n\n\nSwansea University’s Singleton Campus is home to the Egypt Centre\, Wales’s largest museum of Egyptian antiquities. Swansea is situated close to the Gower peninsula\, the UK’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are castles\, stately homes and Roman barracks in close proximity. There will be optional excursions to allow participants to explore the area.\n\n\n\n\n\nProposals for 20-minute papers\, especially from coordinated panels\, are invited. The University is committed to supporting and promoting equality and diversity in all of its practices and activities. We aim to establish an inclusive environment and particularly welcome proposals from diverse backgrounds. Suggested themes include:\n\n\n\n\n\nAncient Narrative Literature\n\n\n\n\n\nAncient Political Thought\n\n\n\n\n\nArchaeology of Graeco-Roman Egypt\n\n\n\n\n\nCivil War Literature\n\n\n\n\n\nClassics and the Future\n\n\n\n\n\nCommentaries\n\n\n\n\n\nFragments\n\n\n\n\n\nGlobal Classics\n\n\n\n\n\nMetals and metallurgy\n\n\n\n\n\nPatronage\n\n\n\n\n\nPedagogy and Outreach\n\n\n\n\n\nPlato\n\n\n\n\n\nPolitical Failure\n\n\n\n\n\nRegionalism\n\n\n\n\n\nRoman Philosophy and Satire\n\n\n\n\n\nRulers and rulership\n\n\n\n\n\nThe ancient reception of Augustan Poetry\n\n\n\n\n\nThe literature of poverty and disgust\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Welsh Classical Tradition\n\n\n\n\n\nAbstracts of no more than 300 words should be sent to CA2020@swansea.ac.uk as soon as possible\, in advance of the selection process which will take place in September.
