SUMMARY:FREE Classical Civilisation A-level Teachers Day\, University of Warwick
DESCRIPTION:Dear All\,\n\n \n\nThe Dept of Classics and Ancient History at the University at Warwick are pleased to announce that we will be holding a FREE Classical Civilisation A-level Teachers Day on Wednesday July 1st.\n\n\n\nhttps://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/classics/research/outreach/warwickclassicsnetwork/events/classciv2020\n\n \n\nOur Warwick academics will lead sessions on modules from the OCR Classical Civilisation A-level syllabus\, focussing on secondary scholarship and new developments\, with the aim of sending teachers back with new understanding and strategies to help in student learning.\n\n \n\nWe are also keen to encourage teachers interested in introducing/teaching Ancient History at their schools to attend.\n\n \n\nIn addition to two sessions on The World of the Hero (Homer and Virgil)\, teachers will be given a chance to attend TWO sessions from each pathway of Culture and the Arts and Belief and Ideas. This choice will allow teachers to attend sessions on the modules they are currently teaching AND exploring other topics they may be interested in or are considering teaching in the future.\n\n \n\nThe sessions will be led by the following academics:\n\n \n\nThe World of the Hero (H408/11): Homer – Dr David Fearn; Virgil – Dr Elena Giusti\n\n \n\nGreek Theatre (H408/21) – Dr Emmanuela Bakola\n\n \n\nImperial Image (H408/22) – Prof Zahra Newby\n\n \n\nInvention of the Barbarian (H408/23) – Dr Eris Williams-Reed\n\n \n\nGreek Art (H408/23) – Dr Conor Trainor\n\n \n\nGreek Religion (H408/31) – Dr Paul Grigsby\n\n \n\nLove and Relationships (H408/32) – Prof Victoria Rimell\n\n \n\nDemocracy and the Athenians (H408/34) – Prof Michael Scott.\n\n \n\nAlongside the sessions\, throughout the day attendees will be given the chance to attend break-out sessions where you will be able to enjoy our VR headsets walk-around of ancient Athens; explore our collections of coins and other artefacts; and enjoy a mock-Symposium with our replica vases.\n\n \n\nLunch will provided FREE OF CHARGE as well as drinks and refreshments during the breaks. In addition\, TRAVEL BURSARIES may be available for some of those teachers whose institutions cannot cover their transport costs. This will be decided on a discretionary case by case basis.\n\n \nProposed Timetable:\n \n\n10.15 Welcome and Introduction\n\n \nPart One: Culture and the Arts\n \n\n10.30-11.15 – Choice of:\n\n \n\nGreek Theatre\n\n \n\nImperial Image\n\n \n\nInvention of the Barbarian\n\n \n\nGreek Art\n\n \n\n11.15-11.30 – Break\n\n \n\n11.30-12.15 – Choice of:\n\n \n\nGreek Theatre\n\n \n\nImperial Image\n\n \n\nInvention of the Barbarian\n\n \n\nGreek Art\n\n \n\n12/15-12.30 – Break\n\n \nPart Two: World of the Hero\n \n\n12.30-13.15 – Choice of:\n\n \n\nHomer\n\n \n\nVirgil\n\n \n\n13.15-14.00 – Lunch\n\n \n\n14.00-14.45 – Choice of:\n\n \n\nHomer\n\n \n\nVirgil\n\n \n\n14.45-15.00 – Break\n\n \nPart Three: Beliefs and Ideas\n \n\n15.00-15.45 – Choice of:\n\n \n\nGreek Religion\n\n \n\nLove and Relationships\n\n \n\nDemocracy and the Athenians\n\n \n\n15.45-16.00 – Break\n\n \n\n16.00-16.45 – Choice of:\n\n \n\nGreek Religion\n\n \n\nLove and Relationships\n\n \n\nDemocracy and the Athenians\n\n \n\nFor more information on the day\, please email Dr Paul Grigsby (Paul.Grigsby@Warwick.ac.uk)\, or to book your place at this event\, please follow this link –\n\n \n\nhttps://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/classics/research/outreach/warwickclassicsnetwork/events/classciv2020/booking/
