Discover the palace of Knossos\, and the search for the labyrinth\, in this major exhibition.\n\n \n\nThe palace of Knossos\, discovered and excavated over 100 years ago\, was the centre of a Bronze Age civilisation of people we now call the Minoans\, named after the legendary King Minos.\n\n \n\nThis will be the first UK exhibition to focus on Knossos and will include over 100 objects which have never left Crete and Greece before\, alongside discoveries from the Ashmolean’s Sir Arthur Evans Archive.\n\n \n\nFor further information and bookings\, see here.

DESCRIPTION:Prof. Paul Cartledge \nThursday 9 March 2023\, 7pm \nLife and Sex in Sparta \n\n\n\nThis online-only event will take place at the start of March when legendary historian and Professor of Greek Culture Emeritus at the University of Cambridge\, Paul Cartledge\, sheds light on some of the more under-discussed aspects of ancient Spartan life and culture\, with a particular focus on love and relationships (NB: some ancient images shown may include erotic graphics). \nPaul came to visit Lytham St Annes back in 2016 and he has remained a friend to the branch\, and a tremendous support\, as patron of our national Classics Competition. A prolific writer and researcher\, he is also the President of the Hellenic Society\, an honorary citizen of (modern) Sparta\, and a holder of the Gold Cross of the Order of Honour of Greece.
