DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 25 June at 5.30. Registration on this link (and below).\n\n \n\nTo celebrate Pride Month and Diversity Week\, LSF Classics Lecture by Dr Joe Watson (Teaching Fellow in Latin Literature and Language\, University of Warwick)\n\n \n\nTitle: ‘Having a Queer Old Time with Tibullus’\n\n \n\nAbstract: The Roman poet Tibullus (c. 55 BCE–c. 19 BCE) wrote two books of love poems in the elegiac genre\, most of which were addressed to two women named Delia and Nemesis. However\, a short cycle of three poems (Tibullus 1.4\, 1.8 and 1.9) chronicles the poet-lover’s affair and break-up with a boy called Marathus. In this lecture\, Dr Joe Watson will explore how Tibullus connects this homoerotic relationship with the themes of time and cyclicality.
