SUMMARY:Professor Ahuvia Kahane to talk on Classics\, Reception and Cinema at St Paul's Girls' School
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday 2nd May at 4.30 pm\, Professor Ahuvia Kahane\, Professor of Greek and Head of the Department of Classics at Royal Holloway\, University of London\, will be speaking on: \n‘Classics\, Reception and Cinema’ \nProfessor Kahane will be discussing the portrayal of Homer in modern cinema\, with a particular focus on the films ‘Troy’ (2004) and ‘O Brother\, Where Art Thou?’ (2000). His recent research activities include the study of ancient literature and thought\, especially Homer and epic\, questions of perception\, genre\, historical time and historical progression\, the classical tradition and aspects of that tradition in modern poetry and visual art. \nThe talk is hosted by the St Paul’s Girls’ School Classics Society. Tea and cake will be served from 4.00 pm in the Dining Hall and the talk will be held in the Old Library. The event will finish between 5.30 pm and 6.00 pm.
