SUMMARY:Classical Mythology and Creative writing at KS2 and KS3: FREE CPD for teachers
DESCRIPTION:From Classics for All… \nClassical Mythology and Creative writing at KS2 and KS3\nFREE CPD for teachers\, Thursday 5th July at UCL – exact time to be confirmed \n\nAward-winning children’s author\, Philip Womack\, will use some of his classically inspired young people’s fiction to explore  the value of mythology as a springboard for creative writing. \nIf you would like to register your interest for this event click here. Look out for further details of this event in emails from me.  It promises to be an engaging and lively afternoon. \n“Ever since I can remember\, I have loved the classics\, starting with the Usborne story of Bellerophon and Pegasus\, and continuing on into the Iliad and beyond. Classical myth is the basis for so much of what is around us: so many writers of all kinds continue to work with myth. Only recently we have had Colm Toibin’s The House of Names (about Orestes)\, and Madeleine Miller’s The Song of Achilles. \nIn this session I will discuss my passion for Classics and classical myth\, introducing you to three works which are based on the myths of Bacchus\, the Minotaur\, and of the Trojan War\, sometimes in unusual and surprising ways. We will engage with creative writing exercises which you can deploy with your students at Key Stages 2 and 3\, and we will discuss ways that you can use myth (and language)  in the classroom and across the curriculum. We will look at the wealth of options available for your next steps\, from useful and entertaining interpretations to the source materials themselves. This will be an exciting and stimulating event which will help to raise the profile and enjoyment of classics in your schools.”
