DESCRIPTION:8-WEEK INTENSIVE GREEK AND LATIN SUMMER SCHOOL\nUNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK\, IRELAND\n\nJune 18th – August 9th 2018For the 19th year running\, the Department of Classics at UCC offers an intensive\n8-week summer school for beginners with parallel courses in Latin and Ancient Greek. The courses are primarily aimed at postgraduate students in diverse disciplines who need to acquire a knowledge of either of the languages for further study and research\, and at teachers whose schools would like to reintroduce Latin and Greek into their curriculum. SUMMARY:THE BRITISH SCHOOL AT ATHENS INTENSIVE COURSE FOR SCHOOL TEACHERS 11th – 15th July 2018
DESCRIPTION:The British School at Athens invites applications for a four – day intensive course for school teachers of Greek civilisation which will explore key subjects in the new GCSE and ‘A’ level in Ancient History and Classical Civilisation syllabus through site tours and evening lectures. This course covers several key themes including: the Periklean building programme\, Greek architecture\, Athenian religious rituals\, the Persian Wars in Athenian art\, ancient theatres\, Athenian art (Geometric\, Archaic\, Severe Style\, Classical\, bronze statues\, statues of women\, funeral stylae\, funeral vases)\, funeral rites\, Athenian democracy\, Athenian everyday life\, the Mycenaean world (burials\, art\, weaponry\, Linear B script)\, oracles and Panhellenic cults\, the Athenian navy and naval installations. \nParticipants will be guided around the Acropolis\, the New Acropolis Museum\, the Kerameikos\, the Athenian Agora\, Delphi\, the National Archaeological Museum\, and the Piraeus and its Museum. \nThe course fee of £600 (shared) or £720 (single) includes accommodation for four nights at a hotel in the historic centre of Athens\, travel between sites\, an evening meal\, a pic-nic lunch\, and a resource pack with plans and study materials. Participants must organise their own flights to Athens. In addition\, participants need to find their own accommodation if they plan to arrive earlier than the 11th or leave later than the 15th. \nFurther information and an itinerary can be obtained from our website (www.bsa.ac.uk)\, and application forms should be emailed to the Assistant Director\, Dr. Chryssanthi Papadopoulou (assistant.director@bsa.ac.uk) by 31st March 2018.
