SUMMARY:KCL Greek Play 2019: Antigone
DESCRIPTION:KCL brings Sophocles thrilling exploration of resistance and responsibility to life in a daring new production. Ancient questions are re-framed for the twenty-first century: when personal values clash with the government\, is duty to your beliefs or to the sanctity of the law more important? How acceptable is civil disobedience against an unchecked power? These questions play out in this battle of the individual against the state\, staged under the relentless scrutiny of twenty four hour news. Following the success of last years acclaimed production of Medea\, which played to over a thousand audience members across its run\, the 2019 Greek Play celebrates another defiant woman of Greek tragedy and will again be performed in a combination of ancient Greek and English. \nThe play will be performed at the Greenwood Theatre (55 Weston Street\, SE1 3RA) on the following dates and times: \n13 February – 2.30pm and 7pm\n14 February – 7pm\n15 February – 2.30pm and 7pm \nThere will be pre-show talks and discussions featuring leading scholars at 6pm every evening\, free to that evening’s ticket holders. \nPLEASE NOTE: School & further education groups wanting to book should email Sophie Norgate\, this year’s Business Manager\, directly at greekplay@kcl.ac.uk.
