This illustrated talk will show how much of her impact stems from the ambiguity about her identity: she is foreign yet speaks elaborate Greek\, adheres to traditional Greek religion yet uses supernatural weapons\, claims to be sane yet commits an enraged murder\, appears to be an all-too-human abandoned wife but disappears on the theatrical machine. We can never be sure exactly who she is.​ \n
