DESCRIPTION:King’s College London Summer School  \nIntensive courses in Ancient Greek  \nIntensive courses in Latin \nThis year King’s College London is again running two 6-week courses (4 July – 12 August\, 2021) in Ancient Greek and Latin as part of the KCL Summer School.  These courses offer students who have not previously had the opportunity to study Greek or Latin intensive training designed to bring them from complete beginners to a point where they are able to read simple texts.  They are ideal for students who intend to study for a Masters or Doctoral degree to get ahead during the summer\, thus acquiring an essential skill for their future research. They are also appropriate for teachers\, undergraduates\, mature students and anyone with an interest in the Hellenic or Roman world. \nTeaching will take place on campus\, but there is an option to join the classes remotely for students who are unable to travel to London. \nIt is also possible for complete beginners to take just the first half of the course (4 July – 22 July)\, and for those who already have a basic knowledge to take the second half of the course (25 July – 12 August). For those who wish to attend face-to-face classes\, we are delighted that a one week Summer School will take place at Queen’s University Belfast from Monday 18th July until Friday 22nd July. DESCRIPTION:Dates & Times: Sunday 17 – Sunday 31 July 2022\n\n \n\n​Location: Florence\, Italy\n\n \n\n​\n\n \n\nOverview\n\n \n\nJoin us for two weeks under the Tuscan sun to explore women’s writing in Latin on this unique learning experience that brings language to life in the real spaces where women learnt and wrote Latin. With a strong focus on primary sources from classical antiquity up to the early modern period\, you will have the chance to hone your Latin reading skills\, discover new authors and discuss a range of themes on a journey through 1\,500 years of writing. Our salon-style mornings will be complemented by a range of afternoon activities including special site visits and creative writing on the Arno.\n\n \n\n​Who is this course suitable for?\n\n \n\nAnyone with an intermediate-advanced background in Latin\, looking for more practice reading authentic texts. No experience with post-classical Latin required. This course will be of great value to taught and research students plus teachers who have had limited experience reading texts by women.\n\n \n\nCultural Programme\n\n \n\nIn the evenings\, students are free to immerse themselves in the Italian dolce vita alongside their studies and join optional events on our Cultural Programme\, gaining access to authentic Florentine nightlife\, reading groups\, spoken language events\, creative writing sessions\, art exhibitions and rooftop bars.\n\n \n\nOur Approach\n\n \n\nOur courses in Italy are always intellectual and practical: Included in the course fee are two creative\, hands-on workshops to immerse ourselves in the world and experiences of Women Latinists over history. At Forte Academy\, our seminars are highly interactive with a strong emphasis on primary sources and intellectual tool-building\, so that you gain the skills to understand and research the past with “fresh eyes”.
