Here is a summary of the talk from Dr Carey:\n\n \n\n“In Athens the ultimate power rested with the people. But for the daily business of the city from waging war to cleaning the streets Athens like any modern democracy had to hand power over to active politicians and administrators. The lecture will explore the ways in which the sovereign people ceded power while exercising control over those it chose to serve it.”\n\n \n\nA very timely topic\, with democratic politicians around the world assiduously attempting to extend the limits of their power.
