SUMMARY:Journey to Britannia: From the Heart of Rome to Hadrian’s Wall
DESCRIPTION:Bronwen Riley \n17 November 2022\, 7pm \nJourney to Britannia: From the Heart of Rome to Hadrian’s Wall \n\n\n\nAn author and journalist with a life-long interest in the ancient world\, Bronwen Riley is fascinated by how and why people travel and their experiences and perceptions of the places they visit; she therefore devises her own cultural journeys and literary events\, including speaking for BBC History Magazine\, English Heritage\, the Romanian Cultural Institute\, the Transylvanian Book Festival as well as for charity events\, local history societies and schools. Her latest book Journey to Britannia\, from the Heart of Rome to Hadrian’s Wall AD130 (Head of Zeus) came out in paperback in March 2022 and will form the content of her lecture when she transports us back to trace the route of a newly appointed governor of Britain and his team from Rome to Hadrian’s Wall at the time of the emperor Hadrian. We will travel across borders\, countries and civilisations\, and we hope Bronwen\, a fellow Lancastrian\, will enjoy her own trip to the Lytham St Annes seaside!

SUMMARY:Can We Preserve Ancient Languages for Future Generations?
DESCRIPTION:What can we do to ensure ancient languages are preserved? How can we teach them to the next generation?\n\n \n\nToday children already have so many expectations. From excelling in school\, practicing sports and hobbies\, to learning languages that can give them the ‘competitive’ edge\, there simply isn’t enough time as it is to fit it all in.\n\n \n\nIn their modern overloaded schedules\, it’s extremely difficult to see how ancient Greek and Latin feature in young people’s lives.\n\n \n\nBut if we can’t inspire an interest in the next generation\, do these ancient languages have a future?\n\n \n\nThis January 11th\, we’ll bring together an elite panel of ancient Greek and Latin teachers to discuss how can we instill an interest in the youth today\, so we can help preserve our collective history for tomorrow.\n\n \n\nFeaturing the famous Eugenia Manolidou\, Greek classical composer\, and course director at ancient Greek school Elliniki Agogi\, Steven Hunt\, from the University of Cambridge and Classics for All\, as well as Gerardo Guzmàn\, ancient Greek professor at the renowned Vivarium Novum Academy in Rome.\n\n \nFURTHER DETAILS AND TO REGISTER\n \n\nTaking place on Wednesday\, January 11th\, 2023 at NOON EST\n\n \n\nCan’t make it live?
