DESCRIPTION:Classical Lies: Are Homer and Virgil Telling the Truth?’ \nOn Thursday 11 September\, Dr Ingo Gildenhard\, lecturer in Classics at the University of Cambridge and fellow of King’s College\, Cambridge\, will give a lecture on ‘Classical Lies: Are Homer and Virgil Telling the Truth?’ at Wycombe Abbey School. We hope that it will interest pupils of the ancient languages\, ancient history and classical civilisation alike. \nThe lecture will start at 7pm in the evening. \nPlease email Emily Clifford at clifforde@wycombeabbey.com if you would be interested in bringing a group of sixth form pupils to the talk. SUMMARY:Professor Tim Whitmarsh on Oedipus and Religion
DESCRIPTION:Professor Tim Whitmarsh\, who will begin as Professor of Greek Culture at Cambridge in September\, will be coming to Cranleigh to give a talk about atheism\, Greek tragedy and religion. This talk\, \n‘Oedipus the Atheist. New thoughts on Athenian tragedy and religion’ \nby one of the most innovative British classicists of his generation\, will be of interest to pupils studying ancient Athens or tragedy in any form\, but it will be especially aimed at those at sixth form level. The talk will also be of relevance to pupils studying ancient philosophy aspects of the Religious Studies A-level. \nTuesday 16 September 2014 7pm at  Cranleigh School \nWe would be delighted to welcome anyone who is interested in coming either individually or with groups of pupils. The only thing we ask is that people who would like to come email Dan Hogg at dawh@cranleigh.org\, so he can get a sense of numbers.
