DESCRIPTION:Archaeological Field Techniques: Training Opportunity for A-level tutors \n29th June to 3rd July 2015: Maryport\, Cumbria \nThe Roman Temples Project Maryport proposes to hold a week-long session offering A-level tutors the opportunity to undergo training in the latest archaeological field techniques while participating in the excavation of a ritual site associated with the worship of Jupiter. \nThe Roman Temples Project\, Winner of the Current Archaeology Research Project of the Year Award\, is directed by Professor Ian Haynes and Tony Wilmott of Newcastle University.  Alongside volunteering on the excavations\, tutors will receive in archaeological survey and finds processing (small finds and environmental analysis) and have demonstrations of all major types of geophysical equipment. \nThe week’s programme will be specially tailored to address the needs of A-level tutors.  There will be no charge for participation\, but attendees would be expected to arrange their own food and accommodation.  A full range of options for the latter\, ranging from hotels to camping grounds is readily available locally. \nSubject to interest/permissions it is hoped to run this special session from 12.00 noon on the 29th June to 3.00 pm on 3rd July.  Tutors interested in this opportunity are asked to register their interest with the Project Community Archaeologist\, Mark Potter m.l.potter@newcastle.ac.uk

DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 2nd July and Friday 3rd July\, we are delighted to be holding a two day living history event\, “Return of the Romans”.\nThe centre will host a series of Roman Cavalry shows\, delivered by expert re-enactors Comitatus\, as well as workshops\, activities and lectures all themed on the Romans in Britain. Students who have attended in previous years have all commented on how the course has developed their knowledge and them as a person in this friendly environment. DESCRIPTION:St John’s College\, University of Durham\, 18th – 25th July 2015 \nThis JACT summer school is for all ages over 16\, from sixth form students to lifelong learners. With accommodation in an extremely attractive college very close to the cathedral\, we enjoy working hard in a delightful environment. Early application is advised for one of the 38 en suite rooms (for an extra £12 per night). \nCourses will be offered in either Latin or Greek at five levels from beginners to advanced with three one-hour sessions each day. At advanced and upper intermediate levels there is an option to read a text in each language. DESCRIPTION:Summer School in Ancient Languages\nLatin\, Greek\, and Hieroglyphs\nDepartment of History and Classics \nSwansea University  \n19 July – 1 August 2015 \n \nThe first Summer School in Ancient Languages will take place at Swansea University in July 2015. Please note that the online application will available by the end of October 2014. If you have queries before that time\, please contact the Summer School Director\, Dr Evelien Bracke (e.bracke@swansea.ac.uk).There will be intensive courses on Beginners\, Intermediate\, and Advanced Latin and Greek\, as well as Beginners Hieroglyphs\, which correspond to one semester of the language at university. Courses are open to all ages 13+. 13-16 year olds are welcome when accompanied by an adult who takes full responsibility for the child. \nThe courses will be taught on the campus of Swansea University which won the WhichUni gold award for Best University in 2014: we have the Egypt Centre on site\, Swansea beach is but a minute’s walk away\, a short bus trip will get participants to the city centre with museums (Swansea Museum\, Waterfront Museum\, Dylan Thomas Centre etc.) and the Marina\, and the beautiful Gower peninsula can be reached by bus from the city centre for those interested in exploring its history and nature. With the many historical sites (not just Roman)\, the National Botanic Gardens\, National Trust and CADW properties all at less than 40 minutes away\, we’re ideally located for a language-intensive course with plenty of scope for exploring South Wales. \nClassics and Ancient History came third in the National Student Survey 2014\, which demonstrates our strong commitment to student experience.
