SUMMARY:Modern Greek Courses with The Greek Project
DESCRIPTION:Adventures in Greek Language 1 (Higher Elementary)\n \nDates:             Tuesday 20 August – Tuesday 27August 2019\nLocation:        Xanthi\, Greece\nPrice:              £730.00 per person\n \nHow to learn a difficult language and have some fun at the same time? That’s always been the challenge for language teachers and learners alike. This week-long intensive course\, however\, plans to do just that and in a stimulating environment where you’ll have plenty of opportunity to practice your Greek with local people. This course is designed for those who have some basic grounding of the language – amounting to two years or more of evening class Greek or an equivalent knowledge – including an ability to say simple things in the past\, present and future. As your teacher\, Ellie’s aim will be to build upon this base so that your have more confidence understanding and responding to native Greek speakers in a variety of everyday situations. The mornings will involve widening out your knowledge of different tenses\, grammar\, sentence structures and vocabulary but always with an ear to how Greeks themselves converse colloquially. The course will also involve plenty of audio-visual exercises including lots of listening\, media extracts\, and one on one conversation. Quizzes\, games and songs will also add some sparkle!\n \nHowever\, nourishing your growing knowledge of Greek in its various social and cultural contexts will also take us out of the classroom in the afternoons\, into the small\, yet historically rich and multifaceted university-city of Xanthi – dubbed ‘the city of a thousand colours’ and its very beautiful\, surrounding Rhodope and Nestos valley countryside. There’ll be a full day excursion to somewhere exciting\, as well as to Abdera\, a classical site of some significance close to Ellie’s home village. But equally importantly\, our walks\, talks and other activities\, whether to the famous Xanthi bazaar\, to local museums\, kafenion or tavernas\, will all have elements of listening to and speaking with Greek family\, friends and acquaintances. There’s sure to be a dance workshop and perhaps a culinary one too\, the latter\, possibly somewhere very special\, and with the coast just a few miles away\, there will also be opportunities to cool off from the summer heat by way of complete beachside relaxation and a swim.\n \nIf you’ve got any questions about the level of the course or anything else\, just contact us and Ellie will send you an e-mail or give you a call. If you’d like to express an interest or find out more\, please also get in touch by way of the enquiry form.\n \nPrice includes\n \n– 22 hours intensive language tuition.\n \n– Three star\, twin bed\, hotel accommodation\, breakfast and and three other main meals during the course of the week\, plus all advertised walks\, talks\, dance workshop and transport to and from Thessaloniki airport.\n \n– Price does not include flight to\, or from Greece or additional excursions.\n \n-Single room supplement.\n \nCourse Leader: Ellie. Itinerary and full details on request.\n \nContact  info@greekproject.co.uk\n \n\n\n \n\n\nAdventures in Greek Language II  (Higher Intermediate)\n \nDates :            Wednesday 28 August – Wednesday 4 September 2019\nLocation:        Thessaloniki\nPrice:              £730.00 per person\n \nDo you already speak some Greek but are not sufficiently confident yet to have wide-ranging conversations with native speakers? If so\, this week-long intensive course could be for you. The course is designed for Hellenophiles who have been learning modern Greek for some years – perhaps in a classroom environment – but who have had less opportunity to express their ideas\, thoughts and opinions in Greek in a more complex\, nuanced and fluent way. Our four hours of intensive classroom learning each day will involve some grammar but the greater emphasis will be on listening to\, speaking and understanding Greek as it is spoken in everyday situations. As your teacher\, Ellie’s aim will also be to present you with a range of topical cultural\, social\, political and economic issues which will expand your vocabulary and get you talking about them. We will be using a range of newspaper and magazine articles\, short stories\, poetry and film – not to say quizzes\, games and songs – to this effect as well as to deepen your knowledge of contemporary Greece.\n \nNourishing your growing knowledge of Greek in its various social and cultural contexts will also take us out of the classroom into a humming\, always vibrant city Historically multicultural\, our tour of the upper town of Ano poli\, will offer an opportunity to explore the many Byzantine\, Ottoman\, Jewish as well as Greek aspects of Salonika. So too will our engagement with the city’s wonderful markets. Food is at the heart of what makes Salonika\, Thessaloniki. And to celebrate that Ellie will be organising a hands-on culinary workshop and\, with it\, a communally prepared feast : something on our previous tours which has never failed to delight. For good measure too and to get us beyond the bustle of our cosmopolitan hub we’ll also have a day out in Salonika’s luminous countryside where we’ll be heading in search of one of our favourite vineyards as well as Vergina\, the quite extraordinary (if politically charged) site of classical Macedonia’s royal tombs.\n \nIf you’ve got any questions about the level of the course or anything else\, just contact us and Ellie will send you an e-mail or give you a call. If you’d like to express an interest or find out more\, please also get in touch by way of the enquiry form.\n \nPrice includes\n \n– 22 hours intensive language tuition.\n \n-Three star\, twin bed\, hotel accommodation\, breakfast and three other main meals during the course of the week\, plus all advertised walks\, talks\, workshops and and trip into Thessaloniki’s countryside.\n \n– Price does not include flight to\, or from Greece.\n \n– Single room supplement.\n \nCourse Leader: Ellie.
