SUMMARY:ELCSS 2-day GCSE Easter Latin Revision Course 2024
DESCRIPTION:Two full days of intensive Latin Language learning and consolidation in direct preparation for the GCSE examinations in the summer. Candidates will be coming to the end of Year 11 and will be readying themselves for examination. We will be revisiting aspects of the language specification that students generally find difficult\, like the indirect statement\, the ablative absolute\, and the uses of the subjunctive. These set-pieces feature in every GCSE examination paper and it is important that the grammatical knowledge of them is secure. We will look at these constructions in isolation\, and then also disguised in unseen passages of Latin\, GCSE past papers\, where they can be more difficult to identify.\n\n \nInformation Brochure\n \n\nBy the end of two days\, students will not only be able to comfortably understand the core linguistic grammatical detail of the Latin syntactical constructions\, but also be able to recognise and translate them with confidence. The course will directly improve public examination performance as they will have readied themselves for the content.\n\n \n\nBook with their online booking form!

SUMMARY:CLASSICS FOR ALL: Key Stage 3 Classics and English CPD: Using Classical Heroes and Mythology in Key Stage 3 English
DESCRIPTION:CLASSICS FOR ALL: Key Stage 3 Classics and English CPD: Using Classical Heroes and Mythology in Key Stage 3 English\n \nWednesday 24th April 2024\, 4–5pm\, Online\n \n\nAlastair Thorley is an experienced Classics teacher and A Level examiner. He has produced resources for the Classical Association on the Classical Civilisation GCSE syllabus and has trained teachers new to the subject through both Classics For All and Keynote. He also contributed to two of the A Level Classical Civilisation textbooks.\n\n \n\nAlastair has created resources based on the Mary Beard video on “Heroes” and will be discussing how these resources can be used by teachers.\n\n \n\nThe idea of what it means to be a hero is always interesting and endlessly evolving. The media prematurely and ironically announces the death of superhero movies in every weekly review of the latest contributions to the genre in the cinema or on the television. We have been\, are and always will be fascinated by what it takes to be better than ourselves.\n\n \n\nThese resources have been designed to enable pupils to look behind the superhero and consider how these characters are created and made interesting and relatable. Neither the pupils nor the teacher needs to have any knowledge of Classical myths and all are encouraged to draw from their own personal experiences. The myths are told in the form of short\, impactful videos. The resources could lead to the pupils producing a longer piece of creative writing but are also designed to be self-contained.\n\n \n\nTo register for the CPD please complete this form by Monday 22nd April. Zoom details for the event will be sent out on Tuesday 23rd April.
