HEAD OF CLASSICS

Starting September 2017

Roedean School is looking to appoint an outstanding Head of Department to drive forward innovative and dynamic practice within the department.  The successful candidate will have a proven record of excellence in the classroom and the ability to secure impressive levels of achievement.  Not only will they manage the operational aspects of the department: they will also inspire staff and students through their passionate approach towards teaching and learning.

We teach Latin through Key Stage 3, then we have solid numbers for GCSE. Latin and Classical Civilisation is taught at A Level, set numbers are healthy and comfortable. Greek is a lunchtime activity, but looking to grow. We make good use of opportunities for theatre visits, conferences and competitions locally and further afield, we liaise with other classicists in Sussex and visit local Roman sites. Members of the department also take part in various other Humanities’ extra-curricular activities. The teaching of the subject takes place in a block of dedicated Classics classrooms, each with full IT facilities, situated on the Humanities corridor within the main school building, with good access to the Library.

Salary based on Roedean’s own salary scale.
