JOB | Teacher of Classics, Winchester College

Teacher of Classics

Winchester College seeks to appoint a well-qualified, able and inspiring teacher of Classics. The successful candidate, who will teach throughout the school, will join a thriving 10-strong department. Recent results have been outstanding: in summer 2018, 75% of pupils taking the Pre-U (A level equivalent) course obtained Distinction grades. In the new OCR 9-1 GCSE over 70% of pupils gained grade 8 or 9, with over 90% at grade 7 or above.

Winchester College is a boys’ boarding school of 700 pupils. It was founded in 1382, and is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious schools. The school’s examination results are excellent. We offer a distinctive and rigorous curriculum, which is complemented by a very wide range of sport, music, art, drama and other co-curricular activities.  Through our non-examined general cultural studies programme (known as Div) we offer an approach to education which develops an intelligent and critical awareness of the world, strong communication skills and a confident ability to think independently and with originality. The successful applicant may be asked to teach Div.

This post will appeal to excellent teachers who will relish the challenge of working with able and articulate pupils in a historic site of unparalleled architectural beauty in the heart of Winchester.

Many of our full-time teachers act as tutors in one of the boarding houses, thereby making a significant contribution to the pastoral care of our pupils. In addition to this, it is hoped that the successful applicant will contribute in some capacity to our sports and co-curricular programme.
