“Medea is the final instalment in By Jove’s season of violent women, a triptych of plays exploring the narratives of women who commit acts of violence. Medea is a fitting finale – her controversial story has been the mythic template for monstrous women of the popular imagination for centuries. Themes of obsessive love, desperation and motherhood will be tested in the intimate, brand new space of The Gallery on The Corner in Tooting Bec.
With a raw, contemporary text by Wendy Haines and an all-female cast, By Jove will continue their signature provocative and original work adapting myth that challenges the assumptions we make about women and their actions. The production will star SJ Brady, Sinead Costelloe and Rosa Whicker as Medea tries to communicate herself to a room of strangers. Abandoned by her husband for another woman and left with the prospect of destitution, Medea drives herself to a shocking act of violence.
