The Intermediate Certificate in Classical Greek
The ICCG is being developed primarily for learners of Greek on limited time for whom sitting the full GCSE is unrealistic. However, some schools may wish to use this qualification as a ‘gateway’ to GCSE to encourage pupils to continue with Greek after the first year of teaching.
The syllabus is based on Book 1 of Taylor’s Greek to GCSE(approximately half-way to GCSE), and the examination is solely linguistic in the style of the WJEC Latin certificate.
The ICCG is being piloted for examination in June 2022 by 19 schools (both state and independent) with up to 200 students sitting the examination. We plan to offer the qualification to other schools (and all other learners) for first examination in June 2023.
The ICCG is endorsed by the CA, CfA and ten university Classics departments (see website for more details).
