INSET for Classics teachers, Saturday 6th February 2016, 9.30 to 4.00

5 February 2016 - 6 February 2016

£12

Liverpool College is hosting this one-day event at which we hope to provide a forum for Classics teachers in the North to meet, enjoy lectures and exchange teaching and learning ideas.

The day will be friendly and informal with two short lectures in the morning and two teacher-led workshops in the afternoon.

Our speakers will be Dr Jason Crowley and Dr April Pudsey, who run the UK’s newest Ancient History degree programme at the Manchester Metropolitan University. Dr Crowley will speak on Spartan Warfare and Dr Pudsey on Childhood in Roman Egypt.

Our workshops will be teacher-led; the idea is not to learn from a single expert, but to share the expertise we already have, exchanging solutions to common problems and building connections among schools in the region.

The exact format and topics of workshops will depend on the number of delegates, but I envisage arranging them either according to subject matter (language vs civilisation teaching) or popular teaching and learning themes (differentiation, resources and activities, new exam preparation, etc.). I shall canvass opinions at the time of booking.

There will be a cost of £12 to cover lunch. If your school cannot cover this or other travel expenses, please do let me know as we may be able to provide some bursaries.

If you are interested in attending, please contact Joanne McNamara at to request a booking form.
