RSC: Tales From Ovid, by Ted Hughes

8 October 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Swan Theatre

4pm – 5:30pm

A selection of Ted Hughes’ famous retelling of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, chosen by Gregory Doran, and read by RSC actors past and present. Who was Proserpina? Or Phaeton? Or Niobe? What happened to Daedalus and Icarus? Why was Philomel turned into a nightingale, or Actaeon into a stag, or Daphne into an olive tree? Why did the King of the Gods transform himself into a Bull, a Swan, or a shower of gold? This performance will reveal all. Ovid was Shakespeare’s favourite classical poet, and one of his greatest influences. Indeed a contemporary account suggests that “the witty soul of Ovid lives in mellifluous and honey-tongued Shakespeare”.

Tickets £20 adults/£15 concessions
