Augustus: the man, the myth and the making of history

Thursday 19th January Augustus led Rome’s transformation from republic to empire and reshaped both the Roman and the Mediterranean world.

The figure of Augustus is synonymous with the idea of Rome and the foundation of the Empire, which had a form of government distinct from the Republic (‘res publica’). But how did the image of ‘Augustus’ come about and who was he before he was ‘Augustus’? In this talk, we will explore the variation personae of the man who would become Augustus and who would reshape the Roman and Mediterranean world. The event will be held at North Liverpool Academy, 120 Heyworth St, Liverpool L5 0SQ https://w3w.co/play.shared.expand Parking is available. Doors open 6.30pm. Talk is 7-8pm followed by questions.
