
Senior Lecturer in Greek and Latin

The Faculty of Classics seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Greek and Latin to join its language teaching team at the University of Oxford. This post will play a leading role in the planning, delivery, and coordination of Ancient Greek and Latin language teaching for undergraduate and graduate students across a range of levels, from beginners to advanced learners. The successful candidate will contribute to the Faculty’s teaching provision in classical languages, supporting students in developing linguistic proficiency, grammatical mastery, translation skills, scansion, and textual analysis within a collaborative and intellectually vibrant academic environment.
This full-time, permanent post is based at the Ioannou Centre for Classical and Byzantine Studies, Oxford. The successful candidate will contribute to Greek and Latin language teaching across the Faculty, including assessment, curriculum development, and outreach activities, while also line managing four Language Lecturers in Greek and Latin. Candidates will possess outstanding competence in Ancient Greek and Latin, proven experience in language teaching, and the ability to support students across a range of levels and learning needs. Experience of line management and familiarity with online teaching platforms and digital learning resources would be an advantage.
