Archaeological Field Techniques: Training Opportunity for A-level tutors

Archaeological Field Techniques: Training Opportunity for A-level tutors
29th June to 3rd July 2015: Maryport, Cumbria
The Roman Temples Project Maryport proposes to hold a week-long session offering A-level tutors the opportunity to undergo training in the latest archaeological field techniques while participating in the excavation of a ritual site associated with the worship of Jupiter.
The Roman Temples Project, Winner of the Current Archaeology Research Project of the Year Award, is directed by Professor Ian Haynes and Tony Wilmott of Newcastle University. Alongside volunteering on the excavations, tutors will receive in archaeological survey and finds processing (small finds and environmental analysis) and have demonstrations of all major types of geophysical equipment.
The week’s programme will be specially tailored to address the needs of A-level tutors. There will be no charge for participation, but attendees would be expected to arrange their own food and accommodation. A full range of options for the latter, ranging from hotels to camping grounds is readily available locally.
Subject to interest/permissions it is hoped to run this special session from 12.00 noon on the 29th June to 3.00 pm on 3rd July. Tutors interested in this opportunity are asked to register their interest with the Project Community Archaeologist, Mark Potter
