Celebrating Oracy Across the Curriculum

Free training event in Rome aimed at primary/secondary school teachers keen to introduce or develop their practice of oracy in the classroom

Dr Arlene Holmes-Henderson (Durham University) and Beccy Earnshaw (Voice 21) are delighted to welcome you to an afternoon of training, conversation, networking and knowledge exchange about oracy in education.
Schedule
13:00-14:00 – Lunch at St George’s
14:00 -15:30 – Two sessions will run concurrently. Please select which one you would like to attend when you book your ticket. Both sessions are appropriate for Primary and Secondary teachers, as well as School Leaders, and will be conducted in English.
a) Introducing Oracy
– Understand the term ‘oracy’ and how it supports teaching and learning
– Become familiar with the characteristics of effective talk (the Oracy Framework)
– Consider how to set and reinforce high expectations for talk in your classroom
– Explore practical approaches to support your students to learn to and through talk
b) Next Steps in Oracy
– Explore how to improve vocabulary through Oracy
– Share best practice in oracy across the curriculum
– Consider approaches to Oracy beyond the Classroom
Evening (16:00-19:00)
In the evening, there is a reception at the British School at Rome, to which you are warmly invited. Please indicate whether you would like to attend when completing the order form. There is a maximum of 55 spaces for all of these events.
