Classical Civilisation A-level Teachers Day

A message from the University of Warwick… Dear List members, The Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick are pleased to invite you to their FREE Classical Civilisation A-level Teachers Day on Monday 1st July 2019, here at the University of Warwick. The event will include academic sessions led by Warwick staff as well as a session led by Alex Orgee, subject leader of classics at OCRFree bursaries are available, courtesy of The Classical Association. On Monday 1st July, our Warwick Classics academics will be leading sessions based on the component modules of the OCR A-level Classical Civilisation syllabus (see below), giving subject overviews and an idea of modern scholarship in their specialist areas. In addition, Alex Orgee, subject leader of classics at OCR will be leading a session on the OCR curriculum and will be answering any questions that you may have. Throughout the day you will also have access to our Virtual Reality Headsets, and there will be sessions on coin handling, experiencing the Greek Symposium with our replica pots, and an opportunity to learn about the work of the Warwick Classics Network and about how your students can apply to Warwick and visit our Open Days. The event is FREE and and free lunch will be provided. In addition, a number of free bursaries will be available, courtesy of the Classical Association. (to be confirmed) 9.30-10.00am – Arrival and Registration 10.00-12.15pm Part One: The World of the Hero 10.00 -11.00am Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey – Dr David Fearn 11.15-12.15am Virgil’s Aeneid – Dr Victoria Rimmel (including 11.00-11.15am Break) 12.15-1.00pm OCR and Breakout sessions 12.15-1.00pm OCR – Alex Orgee, subject leader for classics at OCR, will be here to talk about the OCR curriculum and to answer any questions. Travel bursaries

We have been awarded funding from The Classical Association which will allow us to fund a number of bursaries to cover costs of travel for some of our attendees. If your institution is unable to cover the costs of your travel, then we may be able to cover all or some of your travel costs. You can apply for the bursary on our Booking Form.
