Exploring the World of Sappho

Wednesday 16, 23, 30 September, 7, 14 October, 6pm-7.30pm (UK time) This course will offer an introduction to Sappho and explore the inspirational poetic works of this poetess from Lesbos. The weekly focus of the course will be as follows: i. introduction to Sappho and the cultural landscape, ii. poetic competition: comparative with archaic poetry, iii. female voice and sexuality, iv. myth and sensory reflections and, v. Sappho and classical reception. Sessions may be followed live, or watched afterwards at your own convenience (lectures will be available for up to one month after the final session).
