“Impotent heroes & vulgar dinner-parties: the world of Petronius’ Satyricon”: a lecture by Dr Costas Panayotakis, University of Glasgow
Tuesday 21st June, 7 p.m., St Benedict’s School, Ealing
Dr Panayotakis will talk about the nouveaux riches, class aspirations, classical literature, vulgar food, and tasteless social manners in the early Roman Empire. It promises to be rude, funny, and very entertaining. The talk is not aimed at any particular examination topic and is open to all. There is no charge.
