GUIDELINES AND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION
Following the success of the last year’s spelling bee, Harris Chafford Hundred (RM16 6SA) is taking the lead to deliver this unique and wonderful event for one more year. If you are interested in reviving the renowned story of Caecilius and igniting students’ spirit for Latin and Classics, then take part in the 4th Annual Latin Spelling bee on the 25th March 2020 ( 09:30- 16:00). An event full of surprises and prizes from eminent classics authors and organisations, but also a day where all schools come together to celebrate Latin. 1. Every school/classics department is required to conduct knock out rounds. Subsequently, each school will bring the best 5 students. The aforementioned group numbers must be exact and followed with no more or fewer students, so the final scoring is fair for all schools. 2. The words that students need to know are up to stage 9 from Cambridge Latin Book 1. 3. This competition is appropriate for students up to year 8 or those who are currently doing the Cambridge Latin Coursebook 1. This will provide fairness to all participants. Upon confirming participation, a vocabulary booklet will be sent to each school. 4. The participation fees for each school are 30 pounds. This is to cover all the awards and certificates given to the students, the performance of Medea and CPD provided on the day by renowned classicists and authors: Michael Scott, Edith Hall, Arlene Holmes-Henderson, Steve Hunt, James Watson, Caroline Bristow, Mair Lloyd, Caroline Lawrence, Simon Elliot.
