Didactic format, linguistic requirements, and course fees
The above four Renaissance Latin masterclasses, which are focused on the reading (in the original Latin) and translation (into English) of a selection of four of the finest and most influential authors and Latin texts of the Italian Renaissance, will consist of four weekly sessions of two hours each. During each session an author and a Latin text will be introduced and a passage from the latter distributed as ‘homework’ for the attendees to translate before the next session. The following week, translations will be compared and corrected and the Latin text itself discussed, both in terms of grammar and style and in terms of historical and cultural context.
Those interested in attending the above masterclasses should note that a previous acquaintance with the Latin language is required to fully engage with the Latin texts. However, enthusiastic Latinists who are relatively new to the language and those wishing to learn more about the authors and texts presented are also welcome.
The above Renaissance Latin masterclasses will take place online via Zoom and will each cost £120 per attendee (£100 per attendee for full-time students), plus an administration fee of £20 per person for the academic year 2022-23. For further information on and/or to register for all or any of the above Renaissance Latin masterclasses, please contact Timothy Demetris on this email address (timdemetris@hotmail.com) at the earliest possible opportunity.
