A one-day seminar for Classics teachers interested in introducing Sanskrit at their schools

Sanskrit is a classical language closely related to Greek and Latin which opens the door to a wealth of literary and philosophical traditions.

This seminar will offer:

• A brief introduction to the Sanskrit language and an overview of its literature
• Thoughts on how schools and Classics departments may profit from introducing Sanskrit to their curriculum
• Sanskrit for Classicists: how to use your knowledge of Latin and Greek to learn Sanskrit more easily
• An overview of the teaching and examination materials (from complete beginners to A Level)
• An introduction to the resources for self-study: a complete video course; a large variety of online aids
• An opportunity to ask any questions you may have about Sanskrit

For several decades, St James Schools have been teaching Sanskrit to primary- and secondary-school pupils. We have developed age-appropriate materials which take complete beginners to GCSE and beyond to AS and A Level (administered by Cambridge International Examinations).

There is no charge for the day and tea/coffee etc. will be provided. All registered participants will be given a copy of our introductory textbook.
