‘A Tale of Two Cities? Pompeii’s Neighbour Herculaneum’ – a talk by Professor Andrew Wallace-Hadrill

17 October 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

The first event in the Bristol Classical Association’s 2017-18 speaker series will take place at 6.30pm (for a 7.00pm start) on Tuesday 17th October in the Peace Memorial Hall at Badminton School. We are delighted to announce that Professor Andrew Wallace-Hadrill will be speaking about Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Andrew is Director of Research and Professor of Roman Studies in the Faculty of Classics at the University of Cambridge. Since 2001 he has led the Herculaneum Conservation Project for the Packard Humanities Institute. Andrew was awarded an OBE in 2002 for services to Anglo-Italian cultural relations, and elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2010. Author of several books on Roman social and cultural history, he has taken a particular interest in the Bay of Naples. Andrew’s BBC documentary ‘The Other Pompeii: Life and Death in Herculaneum’ was first broadcast in 2013.

As always, everyone is very welcome – you do not need to be a member of the Bristol CA. This talk may be particularly relevant to those teaching or studying Book 1 of the Cambridge Latin Course.

There is no charge for this event, but to enable us to gauge numbers please e-mail Barbara Bell (bmbellmini@aol.com) by Monday 9th October if you would like to attend.
