Week-long teacher courses are available at the JACT Greek Summer School, held at Bryanston School. https://www.greeksummerschool.org/teacher-courses/ This year we have added a NEW course for those wishing to cover/revise the language material beyond GCSE and prepare for/support their A level literature teaching.
If your school cannot offer funding, bursaries are available thanks to support from Classics for All and the CA.
Courses offered
Beginner: Week 1, Sunday 28 July – Sat 3 Aug. A course for teachers with little or no Greek at present – no prior knowledge is assumed. Greek to GCSE Chapters 1-5 will be covered.
Intermediate: Week 2, Sunday 4 – Sat 10 Aug. This course assumes some knowledge, i.e. the three noun declensions and common verbs in present, future, imperfect and aorist tenses. Greek to GCSE Chapters 6-9 (approx.) will be covered.
GCSE: Week 1, Sunday 28 July – Sat 3 Aug. A refresher of the main constructions and linguistic features at GCSE level, and reading the Homer and Herodotus set texts.
A level (NEW): Week 2, Sunday 4 – Sat 10 Aug. This course is aimed at teachers who will be teaching Greek in the 6th Form or to A level. The course will assist with the transition from GCSE: it will focus on the main constructions and grammatical forms beyond GCSE, and will provide some experience of reading from a range of current A Level texts, both prose and verse, along with strategies and tips on answering A level style questions.
