A weekend Latin course at Gloucester Cathedral: 21-22 Nov 2015
‘The Romans and their gods’
presented by George Sharpley
Through ancient writings and poems (some Latin needed) the course will explore
- identities and functions of these gods: the ones we know so well – the Romanized Greek ones (how did that come about?) – and a multitude of others
- different levels of belief/acknowledgement: belief, superstition, ritualistic reflex and rational disregard
- a few of the finest stories in ancient literature
