Re: ‘Virgil’ Lecture by Professor Matthew Leigh; Thursday 10 March 2016

We are delighted that Professor Matthew Leigh will be speaking at New Hall on the subject of ‘Virgil’ on Thursday 10 March. The lecture will take place from 4.45pm to 5.45pm in the Jubilee Hall. Professor Leigh is currently Professor of Classical Languages and Literature at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of St Anne’s College; Professor Leigh is considered a most knowledgeable and entertaining speaker. The influence of the poet Virgil can be felt right down until the present day, particularly in literary works such as Paradise Lost.

Virgil is a set text for Year 11 Latinists and I would urge those students in particular to attend. In addition to students studying or considering classical subjects, I would also strongly recommend it to those studying English and History. Parents are, of course, also welcome to attend. There is no charge for attending the lecture. Please complete the permission form as soon as possible if you and/or your son/daughter wish to attend the lecture.

If you have any queries or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me via: h.morrison@newhallschool.co.uk.
