Sessions
Why was ‘rex’ such a dirty word in Ancient Rome?” – Gem Adams
Gem will be discussing how to integrate a unit on ancient Rome into the Key Stage 3 history curriculum. Gem has written a full scheme of learning, designed for CfA. This enquiry allows students to develop disciplinary skills in analysing source evidence, consider evidential issues and discover academic scholarship, and much more.
Life in the Roman World – Jane Ainsworth
This session will demonstrate how to engage pupils with life in Roman Britain by asking questions of primary sources. The objects and texts created by the people who lived in the UK under Roman rule give us insights into everyday life if we can just ask the right questions. Life in the Roman World is a free teaching resource that can be taught independently or alongside the Word Roots, Minimus, or Maximum Classics courses to meet the KS2 NC for History topics on the Romans and local history. Using recent research from archaeological discoveries, it teaches key historical skills while investigating the experiences of diverse groups in Roman Britain.
Amarantus – Caroline Bristow
Amarantus and his neighbourhood is a suite of resources aimed at KS3 History classrooms and a result of a unique collaboration between academics, creatives and education specialists. This scheme aims to develop students’ skills of historical investigation as well as their understanding of life in Pompeii in the first century AD.
