State School Teacher Committee Member Required for The Roman Society

Roman Studies Committee – State School Teacher Member

The Roman Society is looking for a new member to join the Roman Studies Committee.

Remit of the Committee

The Committee’s remit is to consider, implement, and review ways to promote knowledge of and interest in Roman studies among the general public, primarily in the UK. In particular, it focuses on the promotion of Latin language and literature and Roman history, thought and art (complementing the remit of the Archaeology Committee), and works closely with the Schools Committee to support and develop Roman studies in schools. It also considers and reviews what the Society does and might offer to its members, and how it can most effectively satisfy and expand its membership. It operates the Society’s MA dissertation prize and the Museum & Heritage Summer Placement Scheme. Once a year, the Committee also considers applications to the Hugh Last & General Funds.

The Committee currently has a vacancy for a state school teacher member to join. It meets three times a year (February/March; June; November), on a Thursday in the late afternoon. Meetings are hybrid, taking place at Senate House (University of London) and by zoom.

Please send any enquiries and all expressions of interest to Dr Fiona Haarer () by Monday 9 June, 2025.
