The Clouds – (KCL Greek Play 2026)

Does being righteous mean being right? Can democracy survive in a post-truth world?

This daring reimagining of Aristophanes’ Clouds catapults ancient satire into the heart of contemporary politics. It exposes how easily ideals can be distorted and asks: what are we willing to sacrifice in the pursuit of a better world?

Written and directed by Giulia Balsamo and brought to life by an ensemble of current students, The Clouds offers a bold contemporary response to Aristophanes’ classic comedy. Continuing KCL’s tradition of pushing the boundaries of the Greek Play, this production explores how ancient satire can illuminate the complexities of modern life. Incorporating original ancient Greek text alongside new writing, the performance interrogates themes of truth, morality, and the fragility of democratic ideals in an age of misinformation and polarisation.
