Classical Lies: Are Homer and Virgil Telling the Truth?
1 May 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FREE

Ingo Gildenhard of King’s College, Cambridge is reprising his excellent talk on Classical Lies in Homer and Virgil at Shrewsbury High School, May 1st, 16.10 – 18.00. This event is open to all studying Classical Civilisation, Latin, Greek and Ancient History, or to those with an interest in the Classics.
This will be an interactive seminar designed to explore questions such as: can we trust what we read in Homer and Virgil? What do we do if one classical writer challenges another (to the point of calling him a liar)? And: to what extent is critical dialogue between authorities a constitutive feature of the classical tradition? The event will be accessible to anyone interested in the classical world (and its afterlife), irrespective of language skills.
