‘Emperors, Coins, Frogs and Oracles’ A Warwick University Event for students from schools across the country, along with their teachers.

1 July 2018 - 2 July 2018
FREE

News of an event at Warwick..

On 2nd July 2018, the Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick is hosting a free event for schools entitled ‘Emperors, Coins, Frogs and Oracles’ for students from schools across the country, along with their teachers.

We are presenting a number of talks which fit in with key Classical Civilisation and Ancient History GCSE, AS and A-level curriculum topics, but which will at the same time be of more general interest to those pupils studying other related Classics subjects. These will include Prof Alison Cooley on the ‘Res Gestae’; Dr Clare Rowan on ‘Coins and the Ancient World’; Dr Emmanuela Bakola on ‘Aristophanes Frogs’; and Dr Michael Scott on ‘Delphi: Centre of the Ancient World.’

We are also very interested in hearing from teachers in schools currently offering no Classics options but who might be interested in developing a Classics curriculum and wish to learn more. During the event we will be hosting separate discussion sessions for teachers, which will focus on the teaching of Classics and how Classics might be encouraged in schools not presently teaching the subject. These sessions will be led by Dr Michael Scott, Hilary Hodgson (Classics for All), Edith Hall and Arlene Holmes-Henderson (Advocating Classics Education), and Paul Blagburn (Warwick Widening Participation).

A copy of the programme of the day’s events is included at the bottom of this email, and a website about the event can be found through the following link: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/classics/research/outreach/warwickclassicsnetwork/

I would like to invite any schools and teachers interested in attending this event to email  P.R.Grigsby@Warwick.ac.uk  and  we can discuss things further. A booking form can also be found on our website. Please contact me if you have any questions or enquiries about the day itself,

Best wishes,
